As denoted in the original Public Land Survey system surveys of the State of Minnesota, within each Survey Township there are 36 \"sections\", each being 1 mi^2. All of these sections across Hubbard County are displayed in this layer. Each section is then subdivided into 16 equal quarter sections. Unlike section boundaries, which can include most smaller water features, quarter sections do not. Thus, lakes and other of-size water features override the location of quarter boundaries. The inconsistently-sized potions of land remaining from these quarter sections are thus referred to as \"Government Lots\".<\/SPAN><\/P>
